Rocklin has doubled its population since 2000 and now numbers 71,600 residents, making it one of California's fastest-growing suburbs east of Sacramento.
Rocklin sits 23 miles east of Sacramento in Placer County, positioned at the western edge of the Sierra foothills along the Interstate 80 corridor. In 2000, the city had a population of 36,330. In 2024, the U.S. Census counts 71,609 residents—a 97-percent increase in a single generation. Between 2000 and 2001 alone, Rocklin grew at a rate of 9.9 percent annually, making it one of California's fastest-expanding cities during that period.
The growth reflects a broader pattern of suburban development in the Sacramento region, with families and young professionals drawn to Rocklin for its schools, parks, and proximity to jobs in the valley. The median household income in Rocklin is $105,617, well above California's state average. The City maintains 37 developed parks and more than 200 acres of open space; there is a park within a half mile of every residential address.
